Art Teaches That…. is a Unique Online Art Lessons For Kids in a video series created exclusively by a professional artist with world wide experience in painting on site (en plein air) about Unleashing kids imagination with art.  It is a series ​for kids 8 on up.  Learning to Draw from the beginning and exploring some of the Maine Coast and learning about Nature as well.

This Online Art Lessons for Kids is a Virtual Learning Series “Art Teaches That” is a Series for kids to learn not only how to draw but what Art Teaches.

I’m Deborah Chapin, a long time professional artist who’s lectured at the Smithsonian American Art Museum and exhibited my paintings worldwide (see CV). I’ve put together a series of videos to start your children off in art, in particular drawing. The goal isn’t to make everyone into artists but to learn the skills that art teaches.

What’s Included in the Art Teaches That Series Learning to Draw 1

This video series consists of 19 lessons for subscribers @ $15/month paid annually and have access for a year with access to all other videos added during the year. They can also subscribe at $35/month.  Videos can be played on iPad, iPhone, smart TV, computers anywhere basically you can hook up to the net and children can repeat video lessons and practice them anytime they (or you) want.   Each Child is given their own studio room on my private site which they can access and use. Your child will have hours of lessons to follow along, that they can take at their own pace or that you can add to your home schooling schedule. This Christmas open the door to art for your child.

Lesson 1 – Basic Tools & Materials Getting Ready & Warm up Exercises

Lesson 1 teaches you about the materials you will need and how to use them, they are very simple and inexpensive.  Which means anyone can choose to learn.  The 2nd half of the lesson are a set of warm up exercises which gets you started.

Lesson 2 – Basic Shading or Tone

This lesson explains the basics of tone or shading and the student discovers how to implement shading on simple objects with the tools that they have.

Lesson 3 – Basic Cast Shadow

This lesson explains cast shadows and how to think about their form and tones, why they are important and how to create them.

Lesson 4* – Basic Forms into Familiar Objects

this lesson explains how to change basic forms into objects that you will later be drawing as part of the exercises.  It is broken down simply but it is the start of putting together all the student has learned so far.

Lesson 5* – Basic Composition

This is the first lesson towards making pictures.  With all the basic skills studies so far the student begins to comprehend how to implement the objects into an picture how to see things in relationship to one another and how to create ideas with those basic forms.

Lesson 6* – Basic Perspective – Pemaquid Harbor House

the basics of linear perspective and how to create a picture using these principles.

Lesson 7 – Beginning to Draw Basket

This is the beginning exercise and an the only interior lessons studied limiting the idea making it simple for the student to try to accomplish and create.

Lesson 8 – Demo Drawing Harbor

First harbor scene using tone and perspective as well as teaching the principles of aerial perspective.

Lesson 9* – Demo Drawing Lighthouse

A more complex composition is possible at this point, and the Lighthouse project uses almost every object that the student knows to create a scene.

I take them on a virtual field trip for these exercises and include any historical notes of interest so they can expand what they learn.  There is a demo where I start a drawing of one of they views, and they have a variety of views to choose from meaning that they can practice till their heart content if they want to.

Lesson 10 – Demo Drawing Curved Road

The road is a exploration of drawing a curve in the landscape and understanding multiple perspective points.

 

Lesson 11* – Demo Drawing Rocks

a variation on the form of rectangles and squares this is an exciting exercise drawing the coast of Maine.

Lesson 12 – Demo Drawing Arch Bridge

A quiet scene of the rock bridge  in Bristol Maine.

Lesson 13 – Demo Drawing Dockside Lesson 14 – Free Exercises

This is an exercise to get the student to start a project from scratch.  Picking a subject matter, and trying to compose, work on perspective and correct themselves.  Gives them some real world experience of starting from scratch.  Then they can submit the work to be reviewed.

Lesson 15* – Demo Drawing Pemaquid Harbor House

This is a house picked to describe the exercise of perspective and this is their opportunity to draw it from scratch and to fully comprehend how far they’ve come.

Lesson 16* – Demo Drawing Queen Anne’s Lace

Variation on the circle form showing a real life situation which requires comprehension of the different angles of a disc

Lesson 17 – Demo Drawing Woods

time

This is practice of drawing a woodland which the variation on the cylinder form.

Lesson 18 – Test 1

At the end of all this they have the chance to choose several topics and show the results of what they’ve learned.

Lesson 19 – Test 2

At the end of all this they have the chance to choose several topics and show the results of what they’ve learned.
