Throughout my 40-year career, working directly with private collectors and interior design firms to create site-specific, legacy artwork has been one of my greatest privileges. Whether you are looking to anchor a room with a monumental grand-format ocean landscape or capture a deeply personal setting in oil on canvas, a custom commission allows us to build a timeless work of art tailored specifically to your architectural space.
The Commission Process: How It Works
- Step 1: The Initial Concept: You share your inspiration, preferred color palette, subject matter (such as classic European florals or traditional marine landscapes), and the exact wall dimensions of your space.
- Step 2: Studio Consultation: We will connect via email, phone, or text to refine the scope of the painting process and subject scope, and discuss custom framing options (including our signature lightweight, UV-filtering gallery plexiglass if needed).
- Step 3: Secure Invoicing: Once the design details, overall quote, and timeline are finalized, a secure invoice is generated for 1/3 down directly through the studio to officially book your piece on the studio calendar.
- Step 4: Creation of a study: I do a preliminary on site study of the setting which sets the lighting ideas and composition. I may do several pieces as part of my preliminary discovery process depending how difficult or tempermental the setting is and the weather patterns. Once I have finished a study that I think is suitable and you like a 1/3 is paid to this part of the process
- Step 5: Creation & Delivery: I provide personal updates as your piece comes to life in my Maine studio. I will send you a photo of the piece and once approved and the final 1/3 payment is delivered your painting is ready for delivery. Your finished original arrives meticulously packed in either a personal delivery if you are local or a a specialized, heavy-duty art vault box, fully insured and ready to hang.
