Maine Art, Morning Light, Pemaquid Point at Dawn, by Deborah Chapin

mid-coast Maine Art, Pemaquid Point, “Morning Light”, 12×17 oil on linen canvas by Deborah Chapin.

“Morning Light”, is the first piece I’ve done off Pemaquid point for the mid-coast Maine Art Portfolio.   I’m in the process of working on an idea of capturing the catspaws off the coast,  A contemporary painting idea and I’m just beginning to get me sea legs.  As part of Of a series of works I’ll be doing off the coast of Maine.   30% studio discount exclusively through purchases in my studio.

About the Process:

I like to start the work for the year in the garden when the flowers come out because it is a calm setting allowing me to get the plein air painting going for the year.  I am starting the coastal paintings of mid-coast Maine Art and will work on that through the spring and summer and probably into late fall maybe winter as the opportunities arise.  It promises to be the full realization and coming together of a lifetime of work and I am very excited about the progress.

Did You Know? That with just inflation a painting:
  • in 1982 that was sold at $600,  in 2020 is worth $2375?
  • in 1984 that was sold at $2500, in 2020 is worth $8625?
  • in 1987 that was sold at $7000, in 2020 is work $21783
This doesn't account for anything but the value of the $ and nothing added for a lifetime of professional experience and worldwide exhibition history.

“Morning Light”, is original art piece painted at Pemaquid Point, a Maine art piece aiming toward painting a moonlight painting in the Fall.   It is part of my VELPme project (Video Exploration Log Painting Maine’s Coast).  This painting shows Mid Coast Maine in one of its many moods, this one being a calm late summer evening as the full moon watch began.   There was a crowd of people ready to drink in the moonrise just a little after sunset.  The next moonrise will take place coincidentally with the sunset.    This is not my first moonrise piece.  I have done at least two other paintings,  one from a plein air series that I did in Black Water’s wildlife preserve, and another I did from a trip to Jackson Hole Wyoming.  Other Original Art pieces and Moonlight Paintings are listed below:

About the Process:  I like to paint several smaller paintings, working myself up to larger work, as I learn the subject matter.  Gradually developing a portfolio which expresses the full character of the place.   Pemaquid Point is no different to than one of my favorite haunts in France.  It must be explored and appreciated and allowed to seep in at it’s own pace.   I am not a slam bam thankyou…. kind of artist.  I think of speed as antithetical to art.  I think deeply and like to delve into the nature of the place,  learning the nooks and crannies and developing a deep appreciation of its beauty.   Instant gratification is not my thing.  I have never been someone who thought a cursory look at someplace even counted as having seen something, even as a tourist.   I went back many times, and stayed during long visits of a month or more exploring the culture, the history and the people of a place. This series of plein air and studio paintings are new work added to an already extensive portfolio of 40 years of art.
