2023 Plein Air Painting Workshops for Artists –

 

Plein Air Painting Workshops include demonstrations, painting assistance and development and critiques at the end of the weekend, use of the studio if it rains. Classes will be limited to 5-10 students.

                 

This is the private home and studio of Professional Artist Deborah Chapin.  Whether you are a seasoned professional or a newbie plein air painter seeking some help with your work. This opportunity offers exactly what an artist needs.  Come get inspired by the beauty of the Mid-Coast. Classes run three days – starting on Fridays and running through Sunday. Students may arrive Thursday afternoon to check discuss the problems and focus of the workshop.  Workshops run June – August.  Dates of workshops being offered below. Plein air Painting Workshops Start in June and Run through August. Only 3 Students can stay at the Studio/Garden. Two Subjects are the focus this year, one in Nature’s Color and the other in Painting Sea and Surf.

Painting the Sea and Surf weather and tide considered. Painting on Pemaquid Point. Student’s should be able to climb rocks with an easel and be able to set up their easel.  Focus will be on how to capture color light and movement of the sea in all types of conditions.  Please specify any particular subjects you would like to study.

Nature’s Color is about judging and understanding how color works and how to mix it to create light and air.    Early morning transient light effect and unusual color combinations.   Painting in the garden and on the Pemaquid Peninsula.     Certain locations will only be available during certain times of the year due to homes in the area.  Please specify any particular subjects you would like to study.

About the Artist:

Deborah Chapin’s Marine paintings have a long exhibition history starting with American Society Marine Artists in 1980 at the now defunct Grand Central Galleries in NYC. As an Independent artist since embarking on her career she has exhibited extensively in top shows and Museums including: Grand Palais and Carrousel de Louvre in Paris with the Société National des Beaux Art; Mystic Seaport Gallery International since it’s inception in 1982, Of Ships and Sea Exhibits at Greenwich Workshop Gallery; Artist of America Exhibitions Colorado Historical Museum; Ketterer Kunst Auctions; and Lectured on plein air painting at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, just to name a few. At the time of her debut she was one of two women in the national exhibitions of Marine Art.
