[National Academy of Plein Air Painters members trip to see Sorolla]
article and pictures by Glen Knowles – designed and edited by Deborah Chapin
The “Sea Idyll” is one of those wonderful fluid children laying at the edge of the surf paintings. Here a life sized clothed girl and nude boy are happily laughing. They are lying upon the wet sand that warmly reflects their image and also displays the cobalt blue sky in their cool cast shadows. The boy’s body dissolves into the lavender and russet-green rushing water while the sun slashes brilliant highlights on his wet richly suntanned skin.
