[National Academy of Plein Air Painters members trip to see Sorolla]
article and pictures by Glen Knowles – designed and edited by Deborah Chapin
The monumental “After the Bath”with an eight and a half head high teenage girl (a veritable Spanish Venus!) stepping out of the sea in a golden wet dress. The cloth discreetly clings to her naked body underneath, while a white billowing cloth is held ready to envelop her by a young man. The attendant, with even greater elongated proportions and a dreamy look in his eyes sparked quite a lively discussion within our group as to the meaning of his glance.
