article and pictures by Glen Knowles – designed and edited by Deborah Chapin

Sorolla traveled extensively across Spain researching the people, their costumes and each province’s quality of light! Archer M. Huntington commissioned the collection in 1911 for $150,000. Completed in 1920 the project filled seven years of Sorolla’s life. The murals were installed and the room opened to the public in 1926, three years after his death.
